The Port Authority of Castellón today hosted an institutional and technical working session between the entity's president, Rubén Ibáñez, and the president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina. During the day, the president of the provincial institution signed the Port Authority's Book of Honor on the occasion of her official visit to the facility.
The main objective of the meeting was to review the technical evolution and the execution status of the main infrastructure and connectivity projects currently underway at the Port of Castellón.
Regarding accessibility and transport, the progress of the railway access works to the port was analyzed, an action with a total planned investment of 325 million euros —with a contribution of 90 million euros from the Port Authority of Castellón— aimed at connecting the facility with the Mediterranean Corridor. The status of the intermodal station project in the southern dock, financed by PortCastelló with 30.7 million euros, was also presented.
During the meeting, officials also detailed the progress in the expansion of the southern dock through the construction of the coastal quay. This project has a budget of 222 million euros for the creation of 1.5 kilometers of new berthing line and the incorporation of 30 hectares of operational surface reclaimed from the sea.
The execution of the new PortControl building was also reported, budgeted at 2.7 million euros for the renewal of the port's comprehensive security system, as well as the port-city integration actions in the maritime district of Grao, which include the new institutional headquarters, the Museum of the Sea, and the urbanization of its surroundings with an investment of 6.3 million euros.
Finally, the working session allowed for a review of the technical specifications related to the future modernization of the fishing facilities (new fish market and ice factory, with a budget of 3.7 million euros) and the organization of the 6,155 square meters of the old cinema space for technological uses linked to the maritime sector.
