Santander, October 22, 2026. More than seventy representatives from the economic-financial departments of the Port Authorities are meeting today and tomorrow in Santander, for their XVIII coordination conference, organized by the Port Authority of Santander (APS) and Puertos del Estado, to analyze, among other issues, the challenges facing the sector.
These include topics such as the development of financial planning, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the international economic situation, the application of Artificial Intelligence to Financial Management, and the extensions of concession periods.
The president of the APS, César Díaz, welcomed these port professionals to the meeting, acknowledging "the important role" played by the economic-financial departments "in the present and future of the Port System," as they are "a key piece" to guarantee "the financial sustainability, efficiency in resource use, and investment capacity of the Port Authorities."
"The competitiveness of a port depends not only on its infrastructure, but also on its ability to intelligently manage its resources, anticipating the future," he added. He also emphasized that their contribution "is fundamental" to reinforce rigorous and transparent economic management, "principles that must govern the actions of public institutions."
Díaz, who was accompanied by the Director of Planning and Development of Puertos del Estado, Manuel Arana; the Deputy Director of Business Plans and Economic-Financial of Puertos del Estado, María Jesús Calvo; and the Director of the APS, Santiago Díaz Fraile, also wanted to acknowledge the value of the professionals who perform this work in the ports, as "their specialization and commitment" are decisive "in facing a changing economic environment and increasingly complex management needs."
