Suape Recovers 55 Hectares for New Port Investments

The Suape Port Industrial Complex has recovered an area of 55 hectares, previously leased to Vard Promar, thereby expanding the availability of land for new investments. With coastal access, it possesses the necessary conditions to host industrial, logistics, port, naval, and offshore developments.

The recovery follows a favorable arbitration award for Suape, which recognized the validity of the unilateral termination of the lease agreement signed in 2010. With the conclusion of the arbitration, the state-owned port company can regain possession and proceed with evaluating alternatives for its future use.

"The recovery of this area expands Suape's capacity to receive new projects in a space with favorable characteristics for industrial and port activity. It comprises 55 hectares with coastal access and potential for various types of ventures. Our goal now is to evaluate the best use for the land, so that it can fulfill a productive function and contribute to attracting investments and generating new opportunities in Pernambuco," stated Suape's Director-General, Armando Monteiro Bisneto.

The land was part of an original area of approximately 80 hectares. Of this total, 25 were assigned to the Vard Promar shipyard, while the other 55 remained linked to the now-terminated lease agreement. The decision does not affect the area where the shipyard is located, which will continue to operate normally. Of the 55 hectares returning to Suape's administration, only 1.75 hectares had been used as a warehouse.

One of the main advantages of the area reintegrated into Suape's management is its coastal access, a crucial condition for activities that depend on direct connection to the maritime environment and port infrastructure. The location opens possibilities for projects linked to naval and offshore supply chains, industry, logistics, and support for port operations.

The next steps include the necessary procedures for the effective recovery of possession and technical studies to define the possibilities of occupation and the best economic use of the land.

From January to July 2026, the Port of Suape handled 16.1 million tons of cargo, an increase of 21.3% compared to the same period in 2025. Liquid bulk cargo accounted for 66.8% of the movement, followed by containers with 25.8%; solid bulk cargo with 5.6%; and general bulk cargo with 1.8%.

With the increase in cargo volume, the number of vessel berths rose to 969, a 10.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
