Damen Shipyards Group announced the latest addition to its cargo vessel portfolio, the Container Feeder (CFe) 1100, launched in response to market demand for more efficient and flexible maritime transport capabilities for regional and international transport.
The CFe 1100 is based on existing Damen vessels, including the CFe 800 and the Combi Freighter (CF) series. Like these vessels, its hull is designed to be fuel-efficient, offer maximum flexibility, and be future-proof for years to come.
The new CFe 1100 vessel comes equipped as standard with a hybrid PTO/PTI system. In PTO mode, the main engine efficiently generates electrical power for onboard consumers, including refrigerated container cargo, reducing the need to operate auxiliary generator sets. The PTI functionality complements the hybrid system with electric boost capability, allowing for increased maximum speed when needed, improved maneuvering flexibility, and keeping the main engine optimized for economical operating speed and minimal fuel consumption during normal service.
The vessel's design has been prepared for future conversion to methanol as fuel. The engine room features space reserves and a system layout that facilitates such a conversion, and while the initial configuration maximizes container cargo capacity, the aft cargo hold layout has been designed to allow for the future installation of a methanol tank.
The design is also prepared for battery integration through a separate and dedicated battery room. This makes the vessel ready for simultaneous propulsion with both batteries and methanol.
To further increase efficiency, the CFe 1100 can also be equipped with the Damen Air Cavity System (DACS). This patented air lubrication system generates air pockets between the hull and the water under the flat bottom area, significantly reducing resistance and, consequently, fuel consumption and emissions.
Shore power connection in port allows for further emission reduction, while the CFe 1100 also offers the option to include energy-saving devices such as the Damen duct, pre-swirl fins, and flow optimizers around the propeller and rudder.
The cargo holds feature a fixed cell guide system specifically designed to accommodate 20, 40, and 45-foot containers in the same arrangement. This allows operators to efficiently load a wide variety of container combinations, maintaining maximum cargo capacity and simplifying operations.
