Fujian Shipping Group has signed a contract with Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. (JSHT) for the construction of two 82,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) bulk carriers. The price and delivery schedule for the new vessels have not yet been disclosed.
In September 2024, Fujian Shipping Group signed a contract with JSHT for two firm and two optional 82,000 DWT bulk carriers. It is still unclear whether the two recently announced units correspond to the options from that initial order, which had a price of USD 41.2 million per vessel.
On July 29, 2026, the Jin Hai Qian, the first 82,000 DWT bulk carrier built by JSHT for Fujian Shipping Group, was christened and delivered. Construction of the second unit in the series began on May 8, and its delivery is scheduled for early 2027.
JSHT noted that this type of bulk carrier complies with the latest requirements of Phase III of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), characterized by being a low-carbon, energy-efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly option.
Through the optimization of hull lines and the use of high-efficiency propellers, the new vessels achieve significantly lower daily fuel consumption at full load speed compared to traditional designs, which substantially optimizes their operational performance.
So far this year, JSHT has announced orders for more than ten new vessels (including options), including 4+2+2 multipurpose vessels (17,400 DWT) commissioned by Singapore's Weisheng Holdings, two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers for Changhang Freight (designed for cabotage and international trade), and the two new units for Fujian Shipping Group.
