Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) announced that the naming ceremony for a new LNG carrier was held at a Samsung Heavy Industries facility in South Korea. The vessel, owned through a joint venture with Toho LNG Shipping, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toho Gas, was named Toho Emerald.
The vessel will play a fundamental role in supporting the global energy supply chain by transporting LNG, including services for Toho Gas. Equipped with an ME-GA dual-fuel engine designed to primarily operate on LNG, the vessel will achieve high operational efficiency and contribute to reducing environmental impact. Thanks to its exhaust gas emission performance and economic efficiency, the vessel is expected to operate as a cutting-edge vessel supporting the transportation services of this latest generation element.
In its Medium-Term Management Plan, published in May 2022, K Line positioned the LNG carrier business as one of its growth drivers. Through long-term contracts, the company will seek to stabilize its earnings, meet the growing demand for energy, and advance its growth strategy by responding to the diverse needs of its customers.
"The vessel was given this name to express our desire to support the stable supply of energy and the continuous development and sustainable growth of the Toho Gas Group," K Line stated.
Final delivery of the ship will be in October 2026. The vessel has a length of 290 meters, a beam of 45.8 meters, a tank capacity of 174,000 m3, and a speed of 19.5 knots.
