Kongsberg Maritime has reached an agreement to acquire Steerprop, a Finnish company specializing in the design and manufacture of azimuth propulsion systems for high-capacity ice-going and Arctic vessels.
Steerprop has established itself in the Arctic propulsion market, supplying propulsion systems for icebreakers, polar research vessels, offshore support vessels, and other applications.
"For Kongsberg Maritime, this acquisition represents a strategic step to strengthen our position in the growing Arctic and ice-class vessel segment. This combination brings together Steerprop's specialized expertise in Arctic propulsion with Kongsberg Maritime's global organization, comprehensive service network, system integration capabilities, and scale," stated Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, CEO of Kongsberg Maritime.

Kongsberg Maritime anticipates that, for its customers, this combination will provide access to a broader offering, more robust lifecycle support, and enhanced system integration capabilities across propulsion, power, automation, and other onboard systems.
Both companies will continue to operate independently until the transaction is completed. Existing projects, deliveries, and contractual commitments remain unchanged, and ensuring continuity for customers will be the highest priority throughout the process.
