Lloyd's Register announced that the Liberia Flag Administration issued a maritime notice highlighting that some Nishi-F FF-65 free-fall lifeboats do not comply with the internal passage width requirements specified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Owners are urged to verify the model and rectify any deficiencies in compliance with IMO standards regarding the Nishi-F Co. Ltd. free-fall lifeboat (FFLB) model FF-65, with a capacity for 25 people and manufactured from October 2010 onwards.
The letter indicates that the internal aisle width of the lifeboat does not meet the required minimum clear width of 480 mm, according to the IMO Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code. The notice includes instructions for identifying and correcting the problem.
Owners and operators of vessels equipped with these lifeboats must verify the model number and manufacturing date. If any of the affected units mentioned above are identified, the clear passage width must be checked to verify compliance.
If any issue is detected, the owner must contact the manufacturer or local distributor, in addition to communicating with the vessel's flag administration or Lloyd's Register so that the deficiency can be monitored until it can be rectified.
