Portuaria Corral S.A. presented its new tugboat named Don Víctor. The vessel operates with a hybrid diesel-electric system.
According to the company, "Don Víctor incorporates technology that will allow us to move towards more efficient operations with a lower environmental impact."
At the same time, it was detailed that "among its features is a fire extinguishing system that will allow it to operate as a true fire truck on the water, drawing water from the river and projecting it up to 40 meters. Additionally, the tugboat will have the capacity to supply power to shore generated from the vessel itself."
In this regard, the Mayor of Valdivia, Carla Amtmann, commented on this milestone, stating that "being a protagonist in the christening of 'Don Víctor' is a privilege, but also this is a clear signal: Valdivia is advancing hand in hand with a port industry that invests in clean technology," remarked the communal authority.
At the event, a storage center named Portuaria Corral Dome was also inaugurated, which was noted to "allow us to keep the wood chips at our Arica street plant covered, improving its environmental and operational conditions."
Additionally, regarding the Dome, it was detailed that "it is the result of a dialogue process with Valdivia: over a year and a half, we held more than 50 meetings involving over 200 people. Their observations were part of the project's development and its final proposal, designed with Elisa Cordero based on the landscape identity of the Los Ríos Region and chosen through citizen voting."
Regarding the mentioned initiatives, the General Manager of Portuaria Corral, Diego Sprenger, highlighted that both projects represent much more than a technological renovation for the company.
"After almost two years of work, today we can look at the Dome and see Don Víctor sailing our rivers and feel proud of what has been achieved. These are projects that were born to make our operation more efficient and sustainable, but they ended up teaching us something equally important: that technology alone is not enough. Opening ourselves to the community, listening, incorporating other perspectives, and being willing to change allowed these initiatives to be better," added the head of Portuaria Corral.
Both the Dome and the tugboat are part of the 2030 Sustainability Plan implemented by the company.
