The Spirit of Toulouse, a pioneering new-generation Ro-Ro vessel from LD Armateurs, has just reached another important milestone in its construction process with the installation of its rotors.
Following its launch earlier this year, the ship completed a journey up the Yangtze River to Shanghai.
Once in Shanghai, it began the installation of its innovative wind-assisted propulsion system with the placement of the first of its six rotors, each reaching a height of 35 meters. This highly visible phase marks a significant milestone in the construction of one of the largest low-emission Ro-Ro vessels built in the world.
Combining six Norsepower Rotor Sails and two dual-fuel engines capable of running on e-methanol, bio-methanol, or marine diesel, the Spirit of Toulouse has been specially designed to significantly reduce its emissions while ensuring the highest standards of operational performance and reliability.
The vessel will operate on the transatlantic route and transport aircraft components for Airbus between European production plants and the final assembly line in the United States.
