Svitzer and Cheoy Lee Shipyards have signed contracts for the construction of six additional 29-meter tugs from the TRAnsverse series. The agreement expands the fleet of these units that the Danish operator is incorporating globally.
The announcement comes as the first of eight TRA2900 tugs already under construction at Cheoy Lee Shipyards' facilities in Zhuhai, China, is nearing completion. The unit will soon undergo sea trials in the waters of that city.
"As our TRAnsverse fleet expands, we are providing customers with greater flexibility to optimize their operations, overcome restrictions, and improve performance in terms of productivity, safety, and sustainability," said Kasper Karlsen, Chief Operating Officer of Svitzer.
The 29-meter TRAnsverse tug was designed by Svitzer together with Robert Allan Ltd. with a focus on versatility, allowing its use in various operations, from escort towing services to port operations.
The TRA2900 model has an 80-ton bollard pull capacity and is prepared to operate on biofuels. It also complies with IMO Tier III requirements and is equipped with preparation for FiFi1 firefighting systems.
"With an 80-ton bollard pull and the ability to operate on biofuel, in addition to being IMO Tier III and FiFi1 ready, the TRA2900 is a highly capable tug design," highlighted Thomas Bangslund, Head of Innovation at Svitzer.
Deliveries corresponding to the new contract are scheduled to begin in early 2028.
With this agreement, Svitzer now has 24 TRAnsverse tugs currently under construction in various markets globally. More than three-quarters of the tugs the company currently has in its order book belong to this family of units.
The TRAnsverse range is available in 26, 29, 32, and 35-meter length versions, with electric, hybrid, and conventional diesel propulsion configurations.
