The incident occurred while the tanker was en route from Vadinar, Russia, to China and began drifting toward the Tekirdag coast, requesting assistance. The Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Centre promptly responded and dispatched tugboat Kurtarma and emergency response ship Nene Hatun.
Subsequently, the Pioneer 1 was safely towed and moored at Tekirdağ Anchorage Area. All the crew were safe, and no marine pollution was reported.
