Royal Wagenborg is strengthening the digital resilience of its general cargo vessel fleet after selecting De Boer Marine for the gradual, multi-year implementation of onboard connectivity, IT, and cybersecurity. The program will ensure secure ship-to-shore communications, a more robust onboard digital infrastructure, and reliable internet access for crews.
The program will cover approximately 160 owned and managed general cargo vessels. Under the agreement, De Boer Marine will provide a comprehensive onboard package including network and IT infrastructure, navigation and communication equipment, connectivity, system upgrades, installations, cybersecurity, and LinQontrol for monitoring and visualizing onboard communication data.
The connectivity setup will combine Starlink, OneWeb, Ku-band VSAT, Iridium Certus, and 5G to support Wagenborg vessels operating worldwide, along with upgrades to onboard network hardware and remote support systems. The scope also includes firewalls, intrusion prevention, web filtering, endpoint management, and secure remote access. De Boer Marine is ISO 27001 certified, supporting the information security requirements for the implementation.
Theo Klimp, Fleet Director at Royal Wagenborg Shipping, stated that "digitalization is a key driver for our strategy to provide reliable, safe, and sustainable maritime services. As our operations evolve, we need technology partners who understand both the opportunities and complexities of our business."
"De Boer Marine offers a comprehensive approach that covers everything from connectivity and IT infrastructure to cybersecurity and user support. Their ability to develop scalable solutions tailored to our operational needs, along with a proactive collaborative model, helps us strengthen our fleet and generate long-term value for our customers, employees, and stakeholders," added Klimp.
Meindert-Jan de Boer, CEO of De Boer Marine, explained that "we are proud that Royal Wagenborg Shipping has chosen De Boer Marine to support its global fleet. This is a comprehensive program that brings together connectivity, IT, and cybersecurity in an integrated approach. We look forward to working closely with the Wagenborg team during implementation and supporting their fleet as their digital needs continue to evolve."
As vessels become more connected, onboard IT, communications, and cybersecurity are becoming central to daily operations. For shipowners, digital resilience is increasingly becoming a fundamental part of fleet infrastructure. This multi-year program will provide Wagenborg with a more integrated and scalable digital foundation for its entire fleet.
