Oil Tankers Go Dark to Sneak More Gulf Barrels Through Hormuz
Tankers are turning off transponders to move oil through the Strait of Hormuz, with 16 vessels recently transferring millions of barrels off Oman's coast. About 2 million barrels a day are now flowing out of the Gulf according to Rapidan Energy Group, far below normal but significantly higher than earlier in the conflict. Government-owned ships from Kuwait and the UAE are using dark transits to avoid detection, helping bring oil prices down almost 30% from their peak.
