Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.- The National Port System Administration Lázaro Cárdenas participated in the Third Sustainable Maritime Transport and Ports Forum, held on October 29 and 30, 2026, in La Paz, Baja California Sur, through the presentation "Technology: automation, digitalization, renewables, and the evolution of the footprint."
The event was organized by the Mexican Chamber of the Maritime Transport Industry (CAMEINTRAM), in coordination with the Undersecretariat of Maritime and Port Affairs, the Ports and Merchant Marine Unit of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Mexico), and the Institute of the Americas (IOA). It brought together sector authorities, representatives from other National Port System Administrations, shipping companies, and national and international port terminals.
The forum aimed to create a space for exchanging experiences and knowledge on the main challenges and opportunities of the maritime-port sector regarding energy transition, decarbonization, electrification of docks, the incorporation of alternative fuels, and the use of new technologies to advance towards more sustainable operations.
In this context, ASIPONA Lázaro Cárdenas presented the actions it is promoting to advance towards port decarbonization, highlighting the ECOPIS platform for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions, the incorporation of electric and automated equipment, the supply of shore power (OPS) to vessels, as well as the upcoming integration of an all-electric tugboat into the port's operations.
