One ton and 680 kilograms were removed between Monday and Tuesday by workers from the National Port System Administration Manzanillo (ASIPONA).
Following the remnants of Hurricane Polo and in the face of torrential rains caused by Tropical Storm Rachel, still in transit off the coast of the State, port administration personnel deployed waste collection brigades, drain cleaning, and removal of waste and sediments in the drainage system of the areas surrounding the port facility.
In this regard, the following activities were carried out: All sewers, gutters, culverts, formwork, and grates between San Pedrito and the former Elderly Care Home (now the Animal Welfare Center) were cleared of garbage and waste.
Critical points were thoroughly cleaned, such as the surroundings of the La Negrita Sports Unit, port access roads, Tapeixtles lagoon, as well as the entrance to the mining train. During part of the day, elements of the National Guard joined in, assisting in the cleaning of some drains.
During these operations, one ton and 680 kilograms were collected, contained in 204 bags.
The collected materials included plastic bottles, various types of disposables, plastic bags, old clothes, various plastics, leaf litter, and other waste extracted from grates and drains from San Pedrito to the former Elderly Care Home, and in all drains in the Glorieta del Pez Vela area and the Inner Harbor.
ASIPONA calls on the inhabitants of the municipality to avoid littering in the streets, streams, and public spaces, as waste causes severe flooding in urban areas. The agency permanently maintains crews of workers who act before, during, and after storms to prevent the collapse of the drainage system, thereby preventing floods, all as part of the Port-City good relationship agenda.
