The Panama Maritime Authority ( AMP) reported that it continues to respond to an emergency on the vessel Min Jiang Kou, where a fire was registered while it was approximately 600 nautical miles from the Central American country.
In this regard, the AMP communicated that "following the incident, the specialized company in charge of salvage requested the vessel's entry into Panamanian waters to carry out the necessary work for its stabilization and to guarantee the safety conditions that will allow its subsequent transfer to a shipyard in Asia."
"On the night of September 7, an increase in temperature was registered in certain areas of the vessel's decks, a situation that is being addressed through hull cooling efforts," the statement added.
Furthermore, it was detailed that "the circumstances related to this increase remain under technical evaluation. Currently, three tugboats are participating in the operations to attend to and stabilize the vessel."
"The AMP continues to monitor the salvage operations and the safety conditions of the vessel, in coordination with the specialized company responsible for handling the incident," the statement concluded.
The Min Jiang Kou vessel sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands and was heading towards the Port of Manta ( Ecuador).
