The ports of Chancay and Callao are expanding Peru's logistics options for exporting agricultural products to Asian markets. Between January and July 2026, Chancay moved 246,452 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), a 74.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Lima Chamber of Commerce.
The direct connection between Chancay and Shanghai reduces maritime transport time to approximately 23 days, compared to 35 to 40 days for previous routes with transshipments. This alternative favors the shipment of perishable products, such as blueberries and avocados, and expands the commercial possibilities for Peruvian exporters.
The growth of both terminals reflects the importance of maritime connectivity for strengthening foreign trade in Latin America. Port modernization and the expansion of international routes generate opportunities to improve the competitiveness of exports and consolidate commercial ties with Asia.
