The president of the Maritime, Port, and Customs Affairs Commission of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), Alberto Ego-Aguirre, projected that the Port of Chancay will close 2026 with an 82.5% increase in container movement, totaling over 422,000 TEU.
Ego-Aguirre's estimate is based on the results achieved by the maritime terminal between January and July of the current year, a period in which it transferred 246,452 TEU, representing a 74.8% growth compared to the 141,000 TEU recorded in the same period of 2025.
"If it continues at this pace, the Port of Chancay could mobilize over 422,000 TEU in 2026, which would represent an 82.5% increase compared to 2025," estimated Alberto Ego-Aguirre.
The commission president noted that the evolution of Peruvian port terminals highlights the importance of strengthening the country's logistics competitiveness and leveraging available infrastructure. "Likewise, given Free Trade Agreements and agreements with third countries, we have to be more competitive," he commented.
In this context, the guild representative stated that port development must promote competitive conditions that contribute to reducing foreign trade costs. In this regard, he proposes that Chancay, being a private terminal, should operate under a free tariff scheme, and expresses his rejection of the intention to regulate its tariffs.
Ego-Aguirre suggested that competition among terminals can help optimize prices and improve conditions for Peruvian importers and exporters, in a scenario where port costs and freight rates directly influence business competitiveness.
In particular, the head of the commission stated that Chancay's consolidation depends not only on more port investments but also on complementary infrastructure that facilitates the transfer of goods to the country's main productive and commercial centers.
Among the identified priorities are the construction and improvement of exclusive road accesses for cargo transport, the implementation of anteports to organize truck entry and exit, and the development of railway connections that articulate the different regions.
