The Peruvian port of Chancay is gaining relevance as a connection point for Ecuadorian cargo with Asian markets. Between January and July 2026, it mobilized 246,452 TEU, a 74% increase compared to the same period in 2025, partly driven by the growth of regional transshipment.
Ecuador is already part of the routes that use Chancay to connect with Asia, mainly through the Guayaquil-Chancay-Shanghai route, with a transit time of approximately 27 days. This connection favors the foreign trade of products such as bananas, shrimp, and cocoa, which require logistical efficiency and competitive transport times.
The growth of Chancay represents a complementary alternative for regional logistics, without yet replacing Ecuadorian ports as cargo departure points. For Ecuador, the challenge is to strengthen port and land infrastructure, improve logistical competitiveness, and take advantage of international connections to expand its exports to Asia.
