The Peruvian National Port Authority approved the Master Plan for the Corío Port Terminal, in Punta de Bombón, Arequipa. The project entails an investment exceeding US$800 million and will be developed in three stages.
The terminal will be multi-purpose and equipped to handle containers, breakbulk, and solid bulk. Corío aims to expand the port capacity of southern Peru and strengthen commercial connections with Brazil through the Southern Interoceanic Highway.
This initiative is projected within a context of growing exports from Arequipa, primarily driven by mining. Its development would complement the operations of Matarani, while the approval of the Master Plan constitutes a planning stage and does not yet represent the start of construction.
