Iran Asserts Control Over Strait of Hormuz Shipping After Attack on Vessel Near Oman
Tehran reasserted its right to control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, warning Gulf states against siding with the U.S., a day after an attack on Evergreen Marine's Ever Lovely ship near Oman. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that safe passage cannot be guaranteed without Iran's role as a coastal state. Oil prices dropped more than 3% as tensions escalated over the preliminary deal between Iran and the U.S.
