The Santa Marta-Ciénaga port area moved over 42 million tons of international cargo in 2025, leading the bulk cargo movement among the main ports of Colombia. This volume surpassed Cartagena, with 31.7 million tons, and Buenaventura, with 19.6 million, reinforcing its relevance for foreign trade.
The General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR) contributes to this activity through the regulation, supervision, and control of maritime and port operations. Through the Port Captaincy, it coordinates vessel traffic and supervises navigation conditions to strengthen safety and operational efficiency.
The performance of Santa Marta highlights the importance of port infrastructure for the maritime connectivity of Colombia and Latin America. The coordination between authorities and operators contributes to strengthening regional logistics, operational safety, and international trade competitiveness.
