Third Engineer Injured by Hot Gases During IOL Sapphire Repairs in India
A third engineer aboard the bulk carrier IOL Sapphire suffered burn injuries to his face and abdomen after exposure to hot gases from an air vent on deck at Kollam Port, India, on 12 August at approximately 1:20 pm local time. Coastal Police patrol vessels responded immediately and transported the seafarer to hospital. The St Kitts and Nevis-flagged vessel had been anchored at the port since 23 June for repairs to generator faults.
