(9:05 a.m. EDT) — MSC Cruises has revealed more details about Catalina Sugar Beach, its new beach destination on Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic.
The destination is receiving significant enhancements ahead of its opening in November 2026.
Highlights include an open-air beach pavilion buffet, which will serve as the central dining hub of the island, offering both international and local dishes.
For refreshments, guests will have two bars at their disposal, including a tropical open-air palapa bar.
Travelers who want to explore the surrounding waters can visit the line's Water Sports Center, where equipment will be available to rent.
The island will also feature comfortable daybeds and cabanas, as well as upgraded facilities throughout, including stylish changing rooms, showers, and restrooms.
Visitors will find a walking path that leads through the island's natural landscape to a scenic viewpoint, with educational signs about local tree species and lookout points overlooking the beach.
Beyond the beach experience, guests can choose from shore excursions to get even closer to nature, including catamaran cruising, snorkeling, boat trips to Isla Saona Island or visits to the nearby Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón.
Catalina Sugar Beach will welcome guests sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as guests staying at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas.
MSC Cruises will begin weekly sailings from its new La Romana homeport in November, with MSC Opera calling at the new Sugar Beach destination on every itinerary.
