The 68th General Assembly of the MedCruise is taking place in Palermo, Italy, from 9th to 12th June, bringing together representatives from across the global cruise sector for four days of industry discussions, networking and strategic collaboration.
The event, hosted and co-organised by the Port System Authority of the Sea of Western Sicily, will also mark MedCruise's 30th anniversary.
The assembly will gather MedCruise members, cruise company executives, associate members, media representatives and industry stakeholders. As part of the anniversary programme, former secretaries-general and honorary presidents of the association are expected to attend, reflecting on three decades of cooperation among Mediterranean cruise ports and destinations and the organisation's role in strengthening the region's position within the global cruise market.
The programme will include Working Group meetings focused on key industry issues, alongside sessions dedicated to governance, strategic priorities and the future direction of MedCruise. Discussions are set to examine a range of topics affecting the cruise sector, including the impact of geopolitical developments on cruise deployment and Mediterranean itineraries, changing passenger expectations, the evolution of cruise operations over the past three decades, and the growing influence of digital communication and artificial intelligence. Additional attention will be given to sustainability, accessibility, innovation and relationship management as factors shaping the future cruise landscape.
Delegates will also receive the latest MedCruise State of the Industry Report, providing analysis of market trends, operational developments and emerging opportunities across the Mediterranean and adjoining seas. The report is expected to offer a detailed overview of current industry conditions and identify strategic priorities for the years ahead.
Alongside the business programme, participants will have the opportunity to explore the cultural and historical heritage of Palermo and Sicily through a series of organised excursions. Planned visits include UNESCO-listed landmarks, Baroque architecture, coastal attractions, historic residences and cultural sites designed to highlight the region's tourism offering and local identity.
The social programme will feature a gala dinner commemorating both the General Assembly and MedCruise's 30th anniversary, followed by a farewell event showcasing Sicilian music, culture and hospitality.
This year's gathering is expected to set a new participation record, with representatives from 27 cruise companies scheduled to attend. More than 700 business-to-business meetings are planned between MedCruise members and cruise line executives, while overall attendance is projected to exceed 240 participants, reinforcing the event's position as one of the Mediterranean cruise industry's principal annual forums.
As MedCruise marks three decades of activity, the Palermo assembly will serve both as a review of the association's achievements and as a platform for discussions on the future development of cruising across the Mediterranean region.
