Port Tampa Bay is filling the former Metroport site — once home to the historic Banana Docks — as it begins developing what will become a fourth cruise facility.
The terminal is expected to accommodate more than 200 additional annual ship calls, helping cruise operations reach more than 2m passenger moves a year and generating an estimated $100m in additional annual economic impact.
The work includes restoring more than five acres of land for the future terminal.
Kimmins Contracting Corp. is leading the site preparation, which includes filling the former Metroport area and relocating stormwater infrastructure. This project phase is expected to continue through late 2026, followed by a settlement period before construction advances.
HDR, in partnership with BEA Architects, has been selected to design the terminal and an accompanying parking garage. Initial renderings of the facility are expected in the coming months.
