The Maritime Authority and various control and inspection agencies jointly conducted an exercise of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code at the DP World Lirquén terminal. The activity aimed to strengthen the coordination and response capacity of the institutions in the face of potential threats to maritime-port security.
The exercise involved simulating the discovery of an explosive device inside a container during an inspection carried out by Customs officials. After activating security protocols, specialized teams were deployed, and the response was coordinated among the various participating institutions, testing procedures, communication systems, and reaction capability in the face of such an emergency.
In this regard, the Port Captain of Lirquén, Lieutenant Commander LT Sergio Benítez, stated that "this type of exercise allows us to strengthen coordination among the institutions that operate in the port environment, jointly train our procedures, and consolidate an integrated response to situations that may affect the security of the facilities and those who carry out their activities within them."
The simulated situation involved the participation of personnel from the National Customs Service, the Special Operations Group of Carabineros, DP World Lirquén's security company, as well as Maritime Police officers from the Port Captaincy of Lirquén, the Canine Unit, and the Immediate Response Group of the Maritime Governorate of Talcahuano.
