First Meeting of Latin American Maritime Administrations in Guatemala

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), in conjunction with the Government of Guatemala and the Central American Commission for Maritime Transport (COCATRAM), inaugurated the first joint meeting of directors and heads of Latin American Maritime Administrations (DAMLA 1) in Guatemala City. The meeting marks a milestone for strengthening regional maritime coordination.

The meeting brings together the region's maritime administrations for the first time in a single forum to foster dialogue, define common priorities, and promote greater technical cooperation. During the opening, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Domínguez emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional capacities and the implementation of the organization's international instruments.

Upon concluding the meeting, Member States plan to adopt a joint strategy to reinforce maritime cooperation in Latin America. This mechanism will promote greater regional coordination in maritime safety, capacity building, and the strengthening of maritime transport governance.
