Iquique International Terminal (ITI), the Fourth Naval Zone, and the Prat Dock Boatmen's Union awarded 55 student winners of the eleventh version of the "I Paint My Port and the Month of the Sea" and "Navigating Between Words" contests, initiatives that once again highlighted maritime identity and the link between the port and the community.
In this edition, more than 270 works brought to life stories and images inspired by the Naval Battle of Iquique, local history, and the port's role in the region's development. The works were evaluated in different categories: pre-school, primary, secondary, and inclusive education.
ITI General Manager, Rodrigo Pommiez, highlighted the impact of the initiative. "What we see in these works goes beyond artistic talent. There is a perspective on what the sea and the port mean for the region. At ITI, and as part of Hanseatic Global Terminals, we care about strengthening this link with new generations, because a sustainable port is also built from knowledge and integration with its community. Together with the Navy and the Prat Dock boatmen, we are contributing to keeping our maritime identity alive."
For his part, the Maritime Governor of Iquique, Captain Gabriel Núñez, emphasized the contribution to the cultural and educational development of the activity. "Commemorating the 147 years of the Naval Battle of Iquique through the creativity of students is a significant way to project our history into the future. Here, the maritime legacy is not only remembered but also revalued from the perspective of new generations," he commented.
The distinguished students received various incentives such as bicycles, tablets, phones, smartwatches, and art kits as recognition for their creativity and dedication.
