Three workers were killed and one was gravely injured after a lifeboat fell into the sea during maintenance work off the coast of Terengganu, Malaysia.
The incident occurred at around 12:50 pm local time on 24 May aboard the FSO Sepas. The four workers had boarded the lifeboat to carry out maintenance below the offshore platform when a critical load-bearing rope or hook detached, causing the lifeboat to plunge into the sea.
Rescue teams quickly reached the workers and brought them aboard, after which they were airlifted to a nearby hospital. Three were pronounced dead on arrival, while the fourth sustained multiple fractures and remains in grave condition.
The workers were part of the platform's safety department. Petronas has launched an investigation into the incident, working jointly with the relevant authorities.
