An agreement to develop joint initiatives for training, professional internships, and experience exchange, benefiting student employability, was signed by Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV).
The collaboration agreement between Terminal 1 of the Port of Valparaíso and the most important university in the Valparaíso Region will materialize through spaces for dialogue and knowledge exchange, aiming to align the needs of maritime and port activity with student education and thus improve opportunities for young people in the job market.
Rodrigo Cabrera, TPS People Manager, highlighted the opportunities this alliance will generate for future PUCV professionals. 'The idea is to motivate students to see that we are a real employment option in the Valparaíso Region. We have a strong commitment to community development in Valparaíso, and this agreement is another step in that direction'.
Cabrera mentioned other social development initiatives implemented by TPS with educational institutions in the region, such as the Trades Training Program with Inacap Valparaíso and the Dual Internship Program with the Instituto Marítimo de Playa Ancha.
This initiative is part of 'La Ruta' Program, a TPS initiative that seeks to be an articulator of local development in Valparaíso, identifying needs, generating alliances, and promoting actions aimed at strengthening employability, training, and well-being. Within this framework, the program also includes the TPS Academy, a free training platform open to the entire community. With this, TPS reaffirms its commitment to generating opportunities and developing the port community.
David Contreras, PUCV Vice-Rector for Outreach, highlighted that 'the agreement will contribute to strengthening the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students through a collaboration based on mutual benefit.' In this regard, he noted that 'this alliance will expand professional internship opportunities, enhance already developed joint initiatives —such as talks, interview simulations, challenge resolution, and activities linking with the work environment—, as well as learn and share good practices implemented by the company'.
Likewise, Contreras indicated that this exchange of experiences will provide valuable information to enrich and provide feedback on the University's training processes.
