African Nightjar Loads 17,000 Tons of Pine in Fray Bentos

The Port of Fray Bentos maintains its pace of forestry activity with the operation of the Liberian-flagged vessel African Nightjar, which since Tuesday the 28th has been loading 17,000 tons of bulk pine logs with a final destination of the Port of Kandla, India, after a cargo top-off in Montevideo.

The operation is handled by the maritime agency Repremar and the port operator Río Estiba, as reported by the Captain of the Port of Fray Bentos, Daniel Rodríguez.

The African Nightjar is 180 meters long and 30 meters wide, and this marks the seventh pine log export operation of the year from the Fray Bentos terminal, maintaining an average of one shipment per month.

The logistics of the operation involve 60 workers assigned to stevedoring tasks, while 34 trucks participate in transporting the wood from the storage centers to the port managed by the National Ports Administration (ANP).

The cargo will subsequently be completed in Montevideo before embarking on its journey to Kandla, one of the main ports on India's west coast and a regular destination for Uruguayan exports of forestry products.

The continuity of these operations reaffirms the role of the Port of Fray Bentos within the country's forestry logistics chain and its integration into international maritime trade.

The immediate precedent was the call of the Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier African Peacock, which, during the previous month, loaded 18,000 tons of pine logs, bound for the same Asian destination and with a cargo top-off in the Uruguayan capital.
