Santander, July 31, 2026. The Port Authority of Santander (APS) has put out to public tender the works for the repair and commissioning of the Maliaño side movable leaf of the Raos bridge, with the aim of completing 'the normal functioning of an infrastructure that is essential for the port's connectivity,' as explained by the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz.
The works have a tender budget of 603,600 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of five months. Companies can submit their bids until August 20.
In order to make the works compatible with the bridge's operability for as long as possible, the tasks are being carried out in two phases.
Thus, once the repair of the Raos side movable leaf and the installation of different sensors to check its operation have been completed, work now begins, after the drafting of the project, to rectify the problems identified in the other leaf , located on the North Bank dock side 'without affecting access to the dock,' Díaz points out.
He adds, moreover, that 'this is an incident to which, from day one, we have been dedicating considerable technical, human, and economic resources with the aim of restoring the bridge's full functionality as quickly as possible.'
The fundamental objective of the construction works for the repair and commissioning of the Maliaño movable leaf of the Santander Port drawbridge is the replacement of the half-shafts and spherical joints corresponding to the bridge's main tilting movement system. The planned works consist of the temporary lifting of the Maliaño bridge's movable leaf using metallic shoring and hydraulic jacks, to proceed with the replacement of deteriorated half-shafts and swivel joints.
Furthermore, tests will be carried out on a series of existing welds in the metal structure to check for and detect, if applicable, potential defects, as well as their repair.
Finally, the installation of a structural monitoring system is planned, both provisional during the work and definitive during the service phase.
