A logistical and operational milestone was achieved at the Multi-operated Terminal of the Port of Iquique, following the unloading of a 116-ton transformer destined for Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi (CMDIC) from the vessel Cóndor Bilbao.
The maneuver, executed according to the planning of the Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) team, required a high technical and safety standard due to the tonnage and dimensions of the structure.
This consolidates the capabilities of the state-administered port facility for handling and transferring project cargo, a strategic segment for the industrial development of the Tarapacá Region.
"The arrival of this equipment, which totaled 203 tons including large complementary electrical components, demonstrates the operational versatility of the Multi-operated Terminal, reaffirming that the Port of Iquique is much more than a transfer point for containers or consumer goods. Its strategic infrastructure and coordination with the different actors in the regional logistics chain allow it to efficiently meet highly specialized requirements of large-scale mining," EPI communicated.
"The entry of this type of critical components for mining reaffirms the adaptability and diversification capacity of the Port of Iquique as the main gateway and enabling infrastructure for large energy and industrial projects in the north of the country, boosting the local economy and strengthening the competitiveness of the supply chain in the Tarapacá Region," it concluded.
