The United States and Iran formalized the cessation of hostilities by signing a 14-point memorandum of understanding, signed by President Donald Trump during the G7 summit and electronically validated by Tehran. The agreement marks a significant step forward in the stability of the Middle East, a strategic region for energy markets and international trade.
The pact includes the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a corridor through which a significant portion of the world's commercially traded oil passes, as well as the gradual lifting of restrictions on Iranian oil trade. Furthermore, the United States will promote a support program for the reconstruction of Iran, while Tehran ratified its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The normalization of operations in Hormuz could help reduce uncertainty in energy markets and strengthen the stability of global supply chains. This favors the continuity of international maritime transport, the security of trade routes, and greater predictability for sectors linked to foreign trade, logistics, and port activity.
