The new system will consist of eight modules/containers, each with six self-service control stations and one manual station, in addition to ten other stations already in operation at the Maritime Terminal for the verification of passengers traveling without a vehicle.
The President of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, thanked all parties involved for their efforts and emphasized the need "to reconcile the demands of European regulations with maintaining Brittany Ferries' turnaround times."
Santander 15/06/2026. The President of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, stated this morning that the first of the modules/containers housing the equipment to provide automated control to border posts has begun operation. However, he also warned that the new European system must "reconcile the application of the new European system with maintaining Brittany Ferries' turnaround times."
This action, which represents an investment of 5.2 million euros and is necessary to comply with the application of the European Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), is co-financed by funds from the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy (IGFV) of the European Union and European Funds for Internal Security (FESI).
According to Díaz, "each container has one manual control station plus six automatic self-service stations, which join ten others already in operation at the Maritime Terminal, used for passengers traveling without a vehicle." In total, there will be fifty-eight automatic self-service stations and eight manual control stations, whose objective will be to "streamline the registration of entry and exit data and refusal of entry data for third-country nationals crossing the external borders of Member States, and travel information and authorization for third-country nationals exempt from visa requirements."

After a period of three years, the APS will transfer ownership of the equipment to the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of Interior.
