Bao Liqun, General Manager of Guangzhou Railway Group, led a delegation to visit Guangzhou Port Group, where Chairman Huang Bo, along with General Manager Zheng Lingtang, welcomed them. At the thematic meeting, they exchanged views on deepening strategic cooperation between the railway and the port, promoting the improvement of quality and efficiency in sea-rail intermodal transport, and jointly planning development measures for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
During the meeting, Bo presented an overview of Guangzhou Port's sea-rail intermodal transport operations during the first half of 2026 and noted that both parties have a strong foundation for cooperation and have always worked in synergy to implement action plans related to the development of train-ship intermodal transport, continuously expanding and building these types of corridors inland and perfecting support services at ports and stations.
The port company leader emphasized that the current tasks to promote this intermodal model are urgent and expressed his expectation that both parties will further strengthen coordination and collaboration.
The objective is to deepen practical cooperation in areas such as the construction of complementary railway projects, the coordinated optimization of freight rate policies, the development of the domestic market, the interconnection of information between the port and the railway, and joint action to obtain local support policies; all by joining forces to overcome development bottlenecks and doing everything possible to achieve the annual goals of sea-rail intermodal transport.
Bao Liqun, in turn, fully acknowledged the results achieved by Guangzhou Port in expanding cargo sources for intermodal transport, optimizing customer service, and promoting the upgrading of facilities at terminals and stations.
The executive stated that Guangzhou Railway Group will make full use of the advantages of its trunk line network to carry out deep comprehensive synergy with the port. This includes continuously strengthening transport capacity assurance, advancing the improvement and remodeling of facilities, joining efforts to capture key bulk cargo, and accelerating the implementation of comprehensive (end-to-end) foreign trade logistics projects.
The railway company's goal is to jointly clear congestion points in each link, expand the scale of intermodal business at an interprovincial level, and contribute to the optimization of the regional transport structure.
Attendees also discussed key tasks such as improving railway infrastructure in the port area, increasing the operational quality of dry ports, attracting goods for the transition of bulk cargo to containers, innovating foreign trade logistics products, and remodeling port hardware, reaching multiple practical cooperation consensuses.
In the next stage, both parties will take this meeting as a new starting point to establish and perfect a standardized communication and liaison mechanism. They will consolidate their forces, continue to leverage their respective advantages to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and comprehensively enhance the radiating capacity of Guangzhou Port's sea-rail intermodal transport hub.
In this way, they will contribute to the construction of the city's international shipping hub and promote the high-quality development of the integrated transport system of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Also present at the meeting were Qian Li, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Railway Group; Wu Wensheng, Head of Dispatch; Li Mingzhong, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Port, as well as heads of functional departments and subordinate units from both parties.
