The presidents of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, and Peru, Keiko Fujimori, agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation with an agenda focused on maritime, port, and logistics connectivity. The meeting, held in Lima, also included the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement to respond to the new dynamics of international trade.
During the meeting, initiatives to strengthen integration between the west coast of South America and the Panama Canal were analyzed, including the update of the FTA, Peru's possible accession to the Treaty of Neutrality of the Canal, and the promotion of an open skies agreement. Likewise, both nations addressed actions to facilitate investments and consolidate productive and logistical complementarity.
The agreements reached will strengthen logistics integration between both countries and consolidate the role of the Panama Canal as a strategic hub for regional maritime trade. Furthermore, they will contribute to facilitating commercial exchange, promoting new investments, and improving the connectivity of supply chains in Latin America.
