Port of Antofagasta signed a cooperation and technology transfer agreement with the Maritime Instruction and Training Center (Cimar) of the Chilean Navy. This alliance will allow the incorporation of simulated navigation for entry into the port facility, using virtual scenarios that recreate operating conditions, maneuvers, merchant vessels, and tugboats.
The tool will allow pilots to train in a controlled environment, verify operational limits, and strengthen their preparation for the safe entry of vessels.
The port company stated that "the agreement acquires special relevance within the framework of the expansion of the breakwater, one of the strategic works of the Port of Antofagasta. This project will modify the maneuvering and navigation conditions within the port, so having simulation tools will allow anticipating scenarios and technically accompanying the different stages of development."
"This signing is part of a long-term vision: to advance in infrastructure, incorporate applied technology, and strengthen the capabilities that sustain a safe, efficient, and prepared port operation for the new logistical challenges of Antofagasta and northern Chile," highlighted the state-owned company.
"We thank Cimar, the Chilean Navy, our concessionaire Antofagasta Terminal Internacional, and all the actors involved in this collaboration, which reinforces the Port of Antofagasta's commitment to serious, planned, and technically sound port development," the company expressed.
