IAPH (International Association of Ports and Harbors) announced the election of Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, as Regional Vice President for Europe on the Board of Directors.
Siemons became CEO of Europe's largest port in 2024, after serving as interim CEO and Chief Operating Officer at the Port Authority.
Before joining the Port of Rotterdam in 2020, Siemons worked at Royal Vopak as President of the North America and Latin America Division, having also been part of their management team in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Previously, he held various management positions at Royal VolkerWessels.
The executive began his career in 1987 in the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he served until 1998. He studied at the Royal Netherlands Naval Institute and Delft University of Technology.
Jens Meier, IAPH President and CEO of the Hamburg Port Authority, commented that "we congratulate and welcome Boudewijn to the IAPH board. The Port of Rotterdam has been a strong advocate for IAPH's vision to be the global forum for ports for collaboration and industry excellence, playing a pivotal role in working groups on the IAPH Environmental Ship Index, clean marine fuels, port readiness level, and shore power, as well as in the association's work on port call optimization, supply chain resilience, safety, and security."
Boudewijn Siemons stated that "I am honored to have been elected and look forward to contributing to the important work of the IAPH. My ambition is to intensify collaboration between ports, achieving tangible progress in decarbonization, digital interoperability, and supply chain resilience. As ports, we can strengthen our community, united in purpose, diverse in voices, and bold in action."
Siemons' term at IAPH takes effect immediately, and its current duration will extend until the 2027 Annual General Meeting, which coincides with the World Ports Conference.
The position of Regional Vice President for Europe was previously held by Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, who left the port authority in April of this year.
