BYD Changzhou Arrives for the First Time at the Port of San Antonio

A Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) from the Chinese car manufacturer BYD will call for the first time in Chile. The vessel, launched in 2024, is scheduled for its inaugural call in the first half of August at one of the concessioned terminals of the Port of San Antonio.

Specifically, the milestone will be set with the arrival of the BYD Changzhou, 200 meters long and 38 meters wide, as part of its route between China and South America to supply various regional markets with electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The ship departed from the Port of Taicang (China) and is currently in Balboa (Panama). The vessel is part of BYD's maritime transport fleet, which was developed to "respond to the accelerated growth of global demand for new energy vehicles," according to the Chinese company.

For his part, Rodrigo González, Commercial Manager of BYD Chile, stated that "the arrival of the BYD Changzhou represents a very important step for our operation in Chile and demonstrates the relevance that the Chilean market has acquired within BYD's global strategy. Having our own maritime fleet allows us to strengthen our logistical capacity, optimize delivery times, and continue to support the explosive growth of the brand in the country."

The BYD Changzhou was named in honor of the city where the automaker has one of its main production plants. The vessel has a capacity to transport 7,000 vehicles and features dual propulsion (liquefied natural gas and traditional fuel oil), a technology that optimizes operational efficiency and reduces emissions during the voyage.

"The arrival of the BYD Changzhou in Chile precedes a new stage for the company in the country. Details of the unloading and the vehicles included in this historic cargo will be announced once the vessel completes its operations at the Port of San Antonio," BYD communicated.
