Turkey's Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) reported the machinery failure of the vessel Albayrak 5 near Haydarpaşa Breakwater on 20 May. No injuries or pollution were reported.

The incident occurred while the vessel was en-route from Istanbul to Sile. KEGM responded and dispatched Kurtarma 9 to tow the vessel, while Kurtarma-13 and Mehmetcik -13 provided escort assistance. Under the supervision of a pilot captain, the vessel was safely escorted to the Ahırkapı Iron Field.
Albayrak 5 is a Suction Dredger that was built in 1987 and is sailing under the flag of Turkey. The vessel measures 98.3 meters in length, 17.35 meters in width and has a carrying capacity of 5,360 tonnes.
