The connection of the first of 11 private terminals to the Moegão system is scheduled for this Sunday (11). For this, a gallery will be hoisted to link Tower 3 of the system, located on Avenida Portuária, to the tower built at the ALTP terminal, a consortium formed by Louis Dreyfus Company and Amaggi. With this connection, the company will be the first in the East Export Corridor capable of receiving bulk cargo transported by Moegão.
"This investment will further project the Port of Paranaguá, which has been breaking cargo handling records every year and has been considered the most efficient in Brazil for six consecutive times. We are doubling the cargo movement by rail, which will bring greater balance between modes, the result of planning to make Paraná the logistics hub of South America," stated Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior.
"The hoisting of this gallery represents a major milestone for this project, which will revolutionize the reception of cargo by rail for shipment onto vessels. From now on, we will have a sequence of advances until the completion of the entire complex," explains the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
The investments to connect the Moegão system structures to the warehouses of the 11 terminals in the Export Corridor are the responsibility of the companies. In the case of ALTP, the work is part of the investments foreseen in the PAR 25 lease.
Portos do Paraná is responsible for the analysis and approval of projects and the technical monitoring of execution. The Port Authority defined standards to ensure the compatibility of connections with Moegão's premises, such as a transport capacity of 2,000 tons per hour and the use of enclosed conveyor belts, which prevent dust dispersion.
Considered the largest port project under execution in Brazil, Moegão has reached 96% completion. The undertaking totals over R$ 650 million in investments, with Portos do Paraná's own resources and financing from BNDES.
When in operation, solid bulk discharged into the hopper by trains will be transported by conveyor belts in suspended galleries to the towers. With the Moegão system interconnected, the valves of the connected terminal's tower will be activated to direct the cargo to the company's conveyor belt, which will transport it to the terminal.
For the hoisting of the metallic gallery, Avenida Portuária will be completely closed from 7 am, in both directions, near ALTP. The blockade is scheduled until 5 pm. In case of bad weather, the schedule may be suspended or postponed.
Cooperativa Cotriguaçu is also in an advanced stage of interconnection and is expected to complete its connection with the Moegão tower in the coming months.
"The other terminals are already developing their projects. Some are more advanced, even with a forecast for the start of works; others have already submitted projects for analysis by the Port Authority. But all are already working with a focus on interconnection," points out Bruna Calloni, engineering manager at Portos do Paraná.
The Moegão works are advancing to the final stretch. The metallic galleries are completed, and work continues on finalizing the mechanical installations. The administration and maintenance buildings, located next to the hopper, are entering the finishing phase. The final stages of the electrical substation, dedicated exclusively to Moegão's operation, are also underway.
With several sections of the project already completed, Portos do Paraná has begun commissioning, with tests on parts of the system, still without cargo on the conveyor belts. In this phase, the operation of mechanical equipment, motors, conveyor belts, sensors, compressed air systems, electrical panels, and automated valve activations are checked, as well as the watertightness of fire-fighting systems.
Tests with cargo, which will use products on the conveyor belts to simulate the actual operating conditions of the structure, will be carried out after the system is energized, which is expected to occur with the completion of the substation.
Moegão and the substation are expected to be completed in December.
