This Wednesday (7), the second session of the Public Hearing on the concession of the Integrated Southern Waterway System and Mirim Lagoon (SAI Sul-Mirim), promoted by the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), will take place. The meeting will gather contributions to improve the bidding documents. The system brings together the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre, the Lagoa dos Patos, Guaíba, and Lagoa Mirim waterways, and the São Gonçalo Canal.
This is the country's first integrated waterway concession project, uniting ports, canals, and waterways of Rio Grande do Sul under a single contract, which will have an initial term of 25 years.
The project seeks to continuously ensure the management and maintenance of waterway infrastructure, especially in the face of challenges caused by extreme climatic events, such as those recorded in 2023 and 2024. The concession also provides for the dredging of navigation channels, periodic hydrographic surveys, the implementation, operation, and maintenance of nautical signaling, in addition to enhancing navigation safety.
Among the expected impacts for the population and the region are increased operational reliability, strengthening of logistical integration between waterway and maritime modes, stimulation of regional economic development, and increased logistical competitiveness.
