Brasília, 10/8/2026 – The National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) held, this Wednesday (7), in Rio Grande (RS), the second session of Public Hearing No. 06/2026, which discusses the concession process of the Integrated Southern Waterway System and Lagoa Mirim (SAIP Sul-Mirim). Held in person, the meeting sought to bring discussions closer to local reality and broaden the participation of the community, representatives of the waterway sector, and other interested parties in the infrastructure to be granted.
The project includes the waterway access infrastructures to the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre, in addition to sections of the Lagoa dos Patos, Lago Guaíba, and Jacuí, Caí, dos Sinos, and Gravataí rivers waterways. In total, the proposal covers approximately 510 kilometers of navigable waterways and foresees the structuring of the country's first integrated waterway concession model.
During the hearing, 68 participants registered to submit contributions to the proposal. Of these, 35 attended in person and made contributions, with questions and clarifications. The manifestations will be analyzed by the Agency and may contribute to the improvement of the project, incorporating different perspectives from users, operators, and other actors involved with the Rio Grande do Sul waterway system.
The concession contract will have an initial term of 25 years and foresees investments in dredging works, monitoring, and modernization of the channel and waterway infrastructure of Rio Grande do Sul. The initiative seeks to structure, in an integrated way, the management and maintenance of the navigable waterways included in the concession.
The public consultation remains open until October 14 for the receipt of contributions. Interested parties can submit their contributions exclusively through an electronic form.
