Logistics Security Protocols for Ecuadorian Exports to Europe

Ecuador and the European Union have introduced technical logistics security protocols for their banana and cocoa supply chains under the Serpaz-Secure Cargo program. These protocols cover three key areas: land transport, entry into port terminals, and operations at European ports, incorporating standardized seals, traceability, and digital control devices. A pilot phase will facilitate training and the establishment of early warning mechanisms between Ecuadorian and European authorities.

Ecuador and the European Union have introduced technical logistics security protocols for their banana and cocoa supply chains, aiming to mitigate the risk of container contamination and safeguard foreign trade. This initiative is part of the Serpaz-Secure Cargo program.

The protocols address three segments of the export chain: land transport, from farms and warehouses to transit; cargo entry and management at port terminals; and operations at European destination ports. They also include standardized seals, traceability, and digital control devices.

The pilot phase will facilitate advancements in training, traceability technologies, and early warning mechanisms between Ecuadorian and European authorities. The model, initially applied to bananas and cocoa, seeks to become public policy and expand to other export sectors and ports within the country.
