The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and Ecuador has been in effect for two years, consolidating trade between both countries and strengthening the access of Ecuadorian products to the Asian market. The agreement has especially favored strategic exports such as bananas and shrimp, which continue to gain market share in one of the world's most important consumer markets.
During the first quarter of 2026, bilateral trade registered a growth of over 21% compared to the same period last year. In the first four months of the year, Ecuadorian shrimp exports to China increased by 30%, reaching more than three-quarters of Chinese imports of this product. Simultaneously, Ecuadorian bananas have strengthened their presence thanks to the gradual reduction of tariffs and more efficient customs procedures for the dispatch of perishable cargo in Chinese ports.
The agreement has also promoted greater logistical and commercial integration between both economies, facilitating the movement of goods through trans-Pacific routes. The expansion of trade flows generates greater opportunities for exporting sectors, strengthens port and maritime activity linked to Ecuadorian foreign trade, and contributes to the development of more dynamic supply chains between Latin America and Asia.
