NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the entertainment programme for Norwegian Aura, ahead of the ship's scheduled debut in May 2027. The lineup will be led by Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston, a new production developed in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Primary Wave Music.
The show will present Houston's music in a contemporary concert format, drawing on a catalogue associated with 220+ million records sold worldwide, 7 consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 singles and 6 Grammy Awards. The production has been created exclusively for NCL and will feature live performances, contemporary arrangements, visual effects and theatrical elements.
Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston will be staged in the three-storey Aura Theatre & Club. The 45-minute production will combine live vocals and a band with visual elements and performances extending beyond the main stage. The programme will include songs such as It's Not Right, But It's OK, I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).
NCL said the production continues its strategy of developing shipboard shows inspired by the music catalogues of major artists. Previous productions based on the music of Prince and Elton John have featured aboard Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, respectively.
The entertainment programme aboard Norwegian Aura will also include ILLUMINOX: Infinite Wonder Unboxed, an original production combining illusion, acrobatics, original music and visual effects. The 45-minute show will be presented at the Aura Theatre & Club and will focus on theatrical effects and acrobatic performances.
Another new addition will be The Vinyl Republic, a live music collective covering genres including country, rock, funk, blues and pop. The group will headline two productions in the Aura Theatre & Club: The Vinyl Republic's Journey Through Rock, centred on Journey's music and the arena-rock era, and The Vinyl Republic's Kickin' It Country, a late-night country programme featuring contemporary songs and line dancing.
The Vinyl Republic will also perform elsewhere aboard the ship, including in the Penrose Atrium and at Improv at Sea, extending the live music programme beyond the main theatre.
NCL will also bring back LunaTique: Pop Circus, an adults-only combination of cabaret, circus performances and nightlife. Following its debut aboard Norwegian Luna, the production will be presented at the Aura Theatre & Club with new acts and music. The experience will be offered at an additional charge and will include cocktails served alongside the performances.
Additional entertainment will include Aura FIRST NIGHT, a welcome production introducing guests to the ship's entertainment programme, and Latin LIVE!, a poolside event featuring live percussion, vocal performances, dance and Latin music.
NCL said the entertainment programme was designed to provide a range of experiences across the ship and throughout the day, with Norwegian Aura combining large-scale theatrical productions, live music and late-night entertainment as part of its onboard offering.
Pat Houston, executor of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, said the estate was pleased to partner with NCL on the production and noted Houston's personal connection with cruising. She said the show was intended to provide an opportunity for audiences to experience Houston's music through live performances while at sea.
