The "Blue Corridors" regional project, driven by MSC and MEDLOG in conjunction with the MSC Foundation, seeks to protect whale migration routes in South America. The initiative involves agencies from Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia to promote safer and more sustainable navigation.
The proposal includes integrating satellite data on cetaceans and information on commercial routes to identify interaction zones and potential risks. These analyses aim to generate technical recommendations that allow for compatibility between maritime traffic and the conservation of marine biodiversity.
During the launch in San Antonio, Chile, the Maritime Authority highlighted the importance of cooperation among public institutions, the port sector, and the scientific community. The project also incorporates environmental education actions to strengthen ocean protection and advance towards responsible maritime operations.
